Stable high-strength and durable adhesion is a challenge in many applications, and surface treatment technology is one solution to this problem.

Atmospheric pressure plasma treatment is a surface modification method that can improve adhesion reliability without using solvents. The atmospheric pressure plasma technology by Openair-Plasma®numerous technological advancements and has been widely adopted in various industries worldwide. Recently, with the expansion of needs and remarkable technological development, particularly in the manufacturing of electronic devices and semiconductors, this technology is increasingly used for underfill pretreatment of elements and resin encapsulation pretreatment techniques for power modules to prevent delamination.

In this webinar, we invite Dr. Kosuke Haraga, Chief Consultant and Doctor of Engineering at Haraga Adhesion Technology Consulting, who has extensive knowledge and experience in high-quality and reliable adhesion technology, to present on this topic.

Title: The Importance of Cohesive Failure to Achieve High-Reliability and High-Quality Adhesion

Presentation Overview:

No matter how excellent the adhesion strength and durability, it does not guarantee high-reliability and high-quality adhesion on their own. It must also have minimal variability in adhesion characteristics, low defect rates, and excel in productivity and cost-effectiveness.

To satisfy these conditions, it is fundamental to reduce interfacial failure and increase the rate of cohesive failure. Surface modification is essential to enhance the cohesive failure rate.

In this presentation, we will discuss the necessity and methods for improving the cohesive failure rate in terms of the variability of adhesion strength, the initial strength required to withstand internal failure, fatigue characteristics, and the initial strength required for the forces applied to the adhesive joints.

Topics:

  • Required High-Reliability and High-Quality Adhesion
  • Variability in Fracture Strength
  • Initial Strength at Onset of Internal Failure
  • Fatigue Characteristics
  • Necessity and Methods to Achieve Increased Cohesive Failure Rate
